The AGV K3 is among the best valued helmets available at the moment, priced in the $200 price range, and borrowing lots of features from its elder brother, the professional GP Tech sported by Valentino Rossi over the years.
There are many style variations of the AGV K3 helmet, with some solid coloring, along with a wide variety of graphic styled helmets too. The price will vary slightly, as with most helmets the graphic designs are slightly more expensive than the solid styles.
Looking at the feature set within, you will find outstanding aerodynamics and airflow. Fans of Rossi will be thrilled to find the constantly-changing legacy graphics which “The Doctor” wore throughout the years. The shell of the AGV K3 is strong and resilient, yet stays smooth enough to slash through the wind flow, and topped off with comfortable ventilating qualities.

Key features of the AGV K3
Shell and graphics
The shell of the K3 is made from AGV’s ultra-resilient thermoplastic resin, with all the colors and graphics painted on rather than the cheap, stick-on decals used on many lesser helmets. This is a testament to the quality of the helmets from AGV.
Fit and comfort
Inside the K3 is a removable, washable Dry-Lex liner and cheekpads with a hygienic treatment finish to keep the odors away and is moisture-wicking at the same time for added comfort. When it comes to fit, the AGV K3 utilizes the same shape of the GP Tech – neutrally oval that is very ergonomic based on AGV’s 3-dimensional study of over a thousand head shapes.
Although this won’t exactly make the K3 fit on everybody’s head (extra-long Arai Profile and rounder HJC head shapes), it can suit a wider range of riders. The K3’s removal mechanism is the company’s Extra Quick Release System or XQRS, which only takes a matter of seconds to put on a new shield or take it off.
Another excellent feature of the K3 is that its face shield fits nicely to the helmet’s eye port gasket. AGV makes use of their exclusive Parametrical Visor Seal, a round, thick gasket which has a neoprene wetsuit-like feel. It fits snugly with very little gaps, to prevent water from leaking along the top of the face shield.
Its gasket seals completely around the eye port, unlike the others which have gaps on the sides. Together with the tightly-closing top vents, this feature makes the K3 more water resistant than other helmets once the face shield is shut and the vents are closed. The K3’s face shield comes with 5 firm detents from open to closed, featuring a normal first gap that is slightly larger for defogging.
AGV registered the K3’s face shield as Street 8 version, with tinted shields available as well. The helmet comes with scratch-proof and fog-proof coating, and won’t fog easily even in cold weather. Further upgrading its defogging capabilities is possible through application of the easy-to-use Clarity Defog on the helmet’s face shield.
Ventilation and air flow
The ventilation scheme of the AGV K3 is obviously engineered for the ¾ or tucked position, like the aerodynamics. The chin vent and a pair of chimney vents upfront work by feeding the air intake. Six extractor vents at the rear then sucks all these air through the K3 helmet, which results in keeping your head cool even when riding aggressively.
The AGV K3 is available in a single shell size that covers XS to XXL, so expect the smaller sizes to come with a thicker padding or UPS liner while the larger ones have a thinner padding. On average, the XL size weighs approximately 3 pounds, which puts it on the lighter range of helmets. The K3 is covered by a 1-year limited warranty from sale date and a 3-year limited warranty from the date of manufacturing.
Is the AGV K3 the right helmet for you?
If you are looking for a good quality road helmet at a very affordable price, or you are simply a fan of Valentino Rossi and want to mimic his helmet choice, then the K3 from AVG is the ideal choice. While this is theoretically an entry level helmet, you are actually getting a lot of quality with the AGV K3 for the very affordable price you will pay for this.
