The Shoei X12 is the stand-in to the brand’s highly rated X11, designed to improve yesterday’s best hardcore racing/sport helmets. While the X11 has set the benchmark when it comes to ventilation and known to be one of today’s aerodynamically stable helmets, improving it is not an easy feat.
Still, Shoei managed to build the X12 as a successful upgrading, featuring a new AIM+ fiber tech shell, larger plastic spoiler, 5 vent intakes and 10 exhaust vents, varying cheek pad thickness levels, aerodynamic stability, quick release self adjusting base plate, CWF-1 racing face-shield, and more.
The Shoei X12 Motorcycle Racing Helmet is available in a wide range of colors and patterned designs. You have a few solid colors, including Black, Metallic Black, Matt Black, White, Light Silver and Dark Grey. Then you have several different graphic patterned designs to choose from, giving you a good selection choice.

Key features of the Shoei X12
The X12 is made with Shoei’s patented AIM+ fiber tech that gave it a bit of added weight but makes the helmet shell stronger in return, meeting the stern Snell 2010 safety standard. The helmet is adorned with a larger plastic spoiler at the rear, and the same shell-forming technology used on the RF-1100.
This makes the X12 available in the industry-leading 5 different shell sizes that cover various head sizes from XXXL down to XS.
The engineers behind the helmet made use of Shoei’s wind tunnel design to its ventilation system, having 5 intakes and up to 10 exhaust vents which makes the X12 the company’s most aggressively ventilated helmet.
With the help of Shoe’s MotoGP racing service, the X12 features innovative a set of side extractor ventilation which get rid of the warm and humid air, giving you reduced fogging and increased comfort in return. Working hand in hand with these vents is the 3-D Max Dry liner that is removable, replaceable, and washable.
Shoei claims that the new liner is capable of absorbing and dissipating sweat up to 2 times faster than the usual nylon interiors. The liner features eyeglass channels while the X12’s cheek pads come in different thickness levels to let riders customize the helmet’s fit.
When it comes to aerodynamics, the Shoe X12 has surpassed even that of the X11, demonstrating stability while eliminating lift and buffeting at high speeds which is missing in its predecessor and other lesser helmets. While lower quality helmets feature wings and spoilers for resisting lift, these are never clean aerodynamically, causing strain on the rider’s neck as a result.
The Shoei X12 also comes with the brand’s new and exclusive Quick Release Self Adjusting or QRSA base plate which pulls the shield of the helmet evenly against its eyeport seal when closed, giving the rider a waterproof and windproof seal.
Another added benefit is the X12’s taller and wider CWF-1 racing face-shield with tear-off buttons that can be used with no readjustments require, along with the tool-free adjustable tear-off tension. The shields come with optional fog-free Pinlock inner lens that sits above the eyeport’s edge for an obscure-free vision.
The Shoe X12 in XL size weighs 1766 g, which is 131 grams heavier over the X11. Like the RF-1100, the X12 is among the first-of-its-kind design that meets the Snell 2010 safety standards, which accounts for the added weight. The sport/racing helmet is covered by the company’s 5-year limited warranty, and is available in solids, metallic colors, and various graphics at different price ranges.
Final thoughts on the Shoei X12
The X12 is a very quiet helmet to wear, it eliminates a lot of the wind noise making your ride that much more enjoyable. It is also extremely comfortable, so if you have longer rides planned you will love this helmet as it is so easy to wear for longer periods.
The design is very slick, and the ventilation openings do a great job of keeping your head cool when required, and you can open and close as you need. Overall the Shoei X12 is a really good quality helmet that is a pleasure to wear.
